Things I love about Da Nang.

So it's been maybe two weeks since we have arrived in this beautiful city, We have finally settled into our new one bedroom apartment, purchased the essentials ( 2 bowls and 2 plates, I really hope we never have guests over) and I already have fallen in love with some parts of it. We are still trying to familiarise ourselves with our surroundings, like knowing where is the cheapest supermarket and the best places to eat/work. It's definitely been a challenge in that aspect, especially when you are travelling on a budget... but that is a different article, here are some of my favourite things here so far: :

The food:

I might have mentioned this before, but Vietnamese food is to die for. Their kitchen is deliciously healthy and fulfilling. As a Pescatarian, the choices are endless. I honestly haven't tried one dish that I didn't love yet. I have listed a couple of favourites down :

Gỏi cuốn:

It's a type of a Vietnamese spring roll traditionally filled with pork, vegetables or in my case, prawns. Wrapped in banh trang. A type of clear white rice paper sheet.
The spring rolls were served with a delicious bowl of peanut sauce, and a dish of side salad.
I thought it was tasty and very healthy.
Better suited for a starter rather the main course as I still found myself a little hungry after.

Pho:

Pho is traditionally Vietnams essential signature dish. A flavoursome soup consisting of noodles, herbs such as coriander or basil, various greens and meat such as beef, pork or chicken. We also received a large side dish of salad with it as well. I tried Pho with crab balls and instantly fell in love with it. This the dish really fills you up,.

Hu Tieu Xao Do Bien :

This is one of my go-to dishes, especially if I am feeling indecisive.
A simple dish of thick rice noodles fried with an abundance of fresh seafood. Decorated with greens and herbs and plenty of onions.
Might not be as healthy as the previous dishes, as it's fried in a lot of oil and can leave you with that
'' This wasn't the healthiest option for me'' feeling, but delicious nonetheless.

So that's basically the food, another thing that I really love here is the ice coffee.

Coffee:
The coffee they serve here is usually served with ice, with the option of adding condensed milk.
I always have ordered it with the milk as I find it to be quite bitter without it.
The coffee here is pretty strong and will give you that much-needed kick,
it comes quite cheap as well, one cup costing you around 17,000 Dong (0.73 USD)
That's another thing I would like to talk about, the pricing. But I will save that for a different article.

Additionally, in most cafes, they also provide you with a glass of green tea to accompany your coffee.
I am a big fan of green tea, so that is a bonus.
This country really does run on caffeine.

It's true, food and coffee here is amazing, not to mention the abundance of freshly squeezed juices and smoothies that are available in most spots.

So far, the biggest attraction in Da Nang for me has to be the beach,
I am a beach person, the idea of lounging under the palm trees on a sunny day, digging my feet in the warm sand whilst reading my favourite novel is heaven for me.
And The Da Nang beach is perfect for that.
As well as having an actual bar and restaurant, so you really can spend all day there.

Da Nang definitely has something for everyone, and I look forward to getting to know this city better and experiencing more of its wonders.
There is still a lot that I haven't seen yet, like the Golden Bridge and the famous fire breathing dragon.

I guess I am taking baby steps in getting to know this gem of a town and hopefully in the next 3 months I will feel like I have really embraced this city with its kind locals and busy streets.

Happy Travelling 😄
