Confessions of a digital nomad

Becoming a digital nomad sounds amazing, you work from home, travel the world, and have endless free time.
If only.

It's true, there is a sense of freedom, and working from home or a coworking location is pretty great.

But all that takes a lot of work, especially in the beginning. The ''free'' time, is not as free as you think.
Sure, if you have an amazing online business or you work for a prestigious online company, you are pretty set.

Yet starting from the beginning and trying to create something new, it's a different thing altogether.
There is a lot of hard work involved, you really have to put in your time and energy in order to get something out.
So yes, you still have the long hours of work ahead of you, and even worse, you have to make sure that you follow the schedule that you have created for yourself.

Going to a 9-5 job made that a little easier, you knew when you had to wake up, get ready, and go.
Now, being a digital nomad is a little different.
Sure you might have set a schedule for yourself that you are determined to follow, and maybe you are an amazing and diligent person, and you do in fact follow that, kudos to you!

And then, you have someone like me, who might decide to start a little later or earlier or even change up my schedule, and that really does make it difficult sometimes. I miss structure, and I don't trust myself to provide it.
It's pretty easy to fall into my old habits and to procrastinate.
While I am working for an English company with it's set hours, it's going well, but starting up something new is proving to be a difficult process.
I always try to find little ways to motivate myself and to keep myself on the right track.
Like, drawing out plans, online reminders etc...

It all boils down to one thing, self-discipline.
Those two words that I dread hearing, especially since I am a world class procrastinator.

I admire people who can stick to a plan that they had mapped out for themselves, I think it's great.

Becoming a digital nomad, or just simply starting a business from the comfort of your home, can be a scary thing. You really do need to change a lot of your habits and understand more yourself as a person., you are depending solely on yourself here, you have to be prepared.
You might think in the beginning ''yeah I got this'' but then some time in, you find it hard to keep at it.

So, here is some parting advice, if you decide to go down this path, I think it's great! And welcome!
But be prepared, it will be hard, especially in the beginning, and when you feel like quitting and going back, don't. Get back on the horse and keep moving forward, you got this.
Use whatever tools necessary, online reminders, plans, apps, software the internet is full of them.

What are some of the tools that you use to stay focused?

Happy Travelling! 😄
